The Demarco Archive

The archive is a comprehensive record of the activities of the Richard Demarco Gallery and latterly of the Demarco European Art Foundation over a period of forty years. The archive consists of, firstly : contemporary artworks of all kinds - drawings, paintings, sculptures and prints, etc, bought in or donated to the Gallery. The work is by artists from all over Britain, Europe, the Americas and other parts of the world. Secondly : rare art books, posters and catalogues and correspondence with artists and galleries worldwide. Thirdly : photographs of meetings of artists and of artistic events in progress, eg Joseph Beuys performing ‘Celtic (Kinloch Rannoch) : The Scottish Symphony’ at Edinburgh College of Art in 1970 and Tadens Kantor’s Cricot 2 Theatre performing in the ‘Poorhouse’ in Edinburgh’s Forresthill. Many of the photographs are unique and include video film of, eg Beuys on Rannoch Moor. It is estimated that the archive may contain in excess of half-a-million photographs, many taken by Richard Demarco himself.
