Cataloguing
this enormous volume of material and putting it into a form where
researchers and the public can appreciate it is a costly and time-consuming
exercise.
Fortunately a generous grant from the Leverhulme Trust allowed us
to appoint an archivist and make a start on this work. It also allowed
us to put
together a sample of the content which enabled Dundee University Department
of Fine Art to make a successful application to the British Universities
Arts and Humanities Research Board for funding for a three-year project.
Their grant of over £300,000 will allow students of Duncan of
Jordanstone School of Art to digitise a selection of 10,000 photographs
from the archive
and post them on the internet.
